Die Gedanken sind frei...

When an idea enters an empty head, it fills it completely, because there is no other idea there to dispute its place.
Montesquieu

Human beings are endowed with reason. They strive for what they consider advantageous to themselves. Experience and morally and rhetorically valuable arguments can lead people endowed with reason to accept death by their own hand for a cause. Allah's will! Houris! Entry into paradise!

No race is immune to this. Japanese kamikaze pilots! The 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend! The Old Guard dies, but it does not surrender.

It is also possible, through rhetorically and morally valuable argument, to create the opposite resolve. With simple, comprehensible propaganda. Propaganda? No, simple, comprehensible truths.

He who wants to kill the tiger must first defeat it in his mind.
Indian proverb

Losing a delusion makes one wiser than finding a truth.
Ludwig Börne

It is harder to smash a prejudice than an atom.
Albert Einstein

The fight against terror needs the same patience it takes for a falling drop of water to hollow out a stone.

Recognising what is essential; the decision to act; strategic judgement and philosophical intuition during the operation will continue to decide the weal and woe of nations in the future.
